Digital Spaces

Our biggest and most ambitious VR project to date — a Scotland-wide public library VR programme conceived, delivered, and grown by Neon8 in partnership with The Space and the Digital Libraries Network.

Digital Spaces — VR in Scottish libraries

01 / VR Headset Onboarding

Kelman personally visited each library on the tour, training staff on how to operate the VR headsets and guiding audiences through the licensed content — ensuring confident, consistent delivery across all partner services.

02 / VR180 Masterclasses

We conceived and delivered funded VR180 filmmaking masterclasses as part of the programme, building skills and creative capacity within the partner library services.

03 / 11 Original VR180 Films

We produced 11 original VR180 films featuring content from five library services across Scotland, released through the Digital Spaces app — a platform we also created.

04 / The Digital Spaces App

We conceived and built the Digital Spaces app as a future-facing immersive archive — a platform for communities to access Scottish library stories through VR headsets, with Phase 3 (funding dependent) aiming to extend this vision further.

How We Can Help

VR for theatre and arts

Value-Added Extras

We create unique short-form pieces specifically for the VR medium, adding a new dimension to the marketing of theatre shows and helping you engage new audiences in genuinely cutting-edge ways.

Education & Outreach

We work with you to provide immersive education experiences for young people, exploring the skills required in making theatre — from a perspective only VR can offer.

Training & Tech Support

We train your team in immersive filmmaking and/or delivering the end-user experience, and offer ongoing tech support for headsets and VR installations.

Case Study

Smile — Dundee Rep

We filmed a full performance of Dundee Rep's 'Smile', the story of Jim McLean, then captured additional footage at Tannadice Park — marrying theatrical production with real-life location for a VR experience only possible in the medium.

The Little Match Girl — Sadler's Wells

This Arthur Pita production was filmed at Sadler's Wells during the Christmas lockdown of 2020, and became the catalyst and test-bed for the development of Box Office VR.

VR for corporate and commercial

Training & Induction

Immersive film is tailor-made for staff training and induction content. Unlike conventional video, VR180 provides an accessible, seated experience where important information about space, regulations, and procedures can be conveyed far more effectively.

Branded Apps

We manage the full process — from filming to distribution — offering you a custom branded interactive app to showcase your content. Viewers watch and learn at their own pace, in their own order.

Experiential Marketing

VR headsets with dynamic immersive content add genuine impact to events and offer new ways to communicate — fostering understanding, empathy, and the WOW factor.

Analytics

Want to know where people look most? We can provide heatmap analytics of viewing hotspots across your content.

Case Study

Biffa Polymers

We created a VR180 immersive solution taking viewers around Biffa's polymer recycling plant, showing each stage of the process. Accessible on branded headsets via the Biffa app, with gaze-view functionality.

VR for the third sector

The Empathy Engine

We call VR the Empathy Engine — it lets viewers see people and environments in lifesize 3D, building understanding and connection in ways no other medium can.

Advocacy & Fundraising

Immersive content for campaigns, fundraising, and storytelling that puts supporters directly into the world of the people you serve.

Training & Tech Support

Training for your team in immersive filmmaking, headset operation, and audience delivery — plus ongoing technical support.

Case Study

Hearts & Minds — Royal Hospital for Children & Young People

Collaborating with Hearts & Minds and Edinburgh's Royal Hospital for Children & Young People, we created a VR180 film featuring Clowndoctors to help children navigate pre- and post-op experiences, easing fears through humour and staff support.

VR Hardware

Our VR180 films are compatible with all major headsets, including the Apple Vision Pro. We've also started producing content in Apple's Spatial Video format.

If you have an iPhone 15 or 16 Pro, you can start documenting your own experiences in Spatial Video format. As headset technology evolves, so too does our capability — we're always at the leading edge of what's possible in the medium.
